The Library / Mediatheque in the Museo Nazionale del Cinema represents one of the most prestigious centres of documentation on cinema and photography in Europe for its size and the variety of its collections.

The library and the mediatheque
Here you will find the history of cinema and photography, their languages and techniques, the authors, stars, genres of Hollywood, the masterpieces, but less famous films as well.
With the Library’s collections you can learn or study every aspect of it, using popular texts as well as more specialized works: historical essays and criticism, textual analyses, novels which inspired films, biographies on directors and actors, screen plays, filmography and bibliographies, technical manuals, photo albums, dictionaries and encyclopaedias, conference proceedings, theses, music scores, comic strips, pressbooks, Italian and foreign magazines of all kinds and from every period, catalogues from exhibitions and festivals, etc. All are regularly updated with the purchase of the latest Italian and international bibliographic publications. The growth of the collections is guaranteed by the valuable donations offered by scholars and collectors. Particularly important is the endowment left by Mario Gromo, the famous writer and critic for La Stampa, whose name honours the Library / Mediatheque.
The Mediatheque, on the other hand, offers the public the choice from among hundreds of films which can be seen directly at the Mediatheque itself. There are unforgettable Hollywood classics,
masterpieces from Italian cinema, films by important directors of European cinema, as well as silent films filmed in Torino.
