| 1958 | On September 27th the Museum is opened to the public at Palazzo Chiablese, a wing of the Royal Palace. A few months later, the Museum’s Library is inaugurated. |
| 1985 | The museum location in Palazzo Chiablese is closed for safety reasons. |
| 1987 | The Library is reopened at a new location, San Pietro in Vincoli. |
| 1989 | The Museum’s multiplex, the Cinema Massimo, is inaugurated. |
| 1991 | Maria Adriana Prolo dies on February 20th. |
| 1992 | The Fondazione Maria Adriana Prolo – Museo Nazionale del Cinema is founded; it is a joint initiative of the Piedmont Region, the Municipality of Torino, the Province of Torino, the City of Torino, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Torino and the Associazione Museo Nazionale del Cinema. |
| 1996 | The Museum’s Film Library is opened to the public in Via Sospello. |
| 2000 | On July 19th the National Cinema Museum is reopened to the public at its new location inside the Mole Antonelliana. |
| 2006 | For the Winter Olympics, the Museum’s setup is partially renovated. |
| 2007 | he tactile area "La Mole Antonelliana" is inaugurated on the Welcome Level of the Museum. |
| 2008 | The Film Library / Mediatheque is moved to its new location in Via Serao. |
